While on the discussion of 3D packages, even though I currently use Carrara Studio as my primary software, I'm planning an eventual switch to Maxon's Cinema 4D ... ...Another software package I'm considering moving to is Luxology's Modo You too? I've got demos of both on my iMac's HD and they look ...

Actually, check out Google's Sketch Up application. While it's designed with architectural purposes in mind, it has many of the features Canoma offered back when it was still around. Also the software is free and runs on both Macs and Windows PCs. Sketchup is also a good suggestion, but it's not fr...

I just spoke to a very talented friend who uses Blender at home and Maya at work. He said that Blender matches 50% of what Maya does feature for feature. The next 30% of what Maya does, Blender can do but nowhere near as good (and not necessarily at industrial strength). And Blender can't do the la...

"Why am I buying $3000 Maya stations when I can get the same quality for free?". Beleive me, your's is not the only studio wondering this. With the recent updates to both Max and Maya, and the *cough* cost of upgrading per seat, I've heard rumblings from a number of studios. I've heard &q...

Are there any professional companies using Blender? What do you mean by "professional"? If you mean is anyone making a living using Blender, the answer is definitely yes. Although Blender isn't our primary tool, we probably use it as much as any other 3D tool. This would be a good questio...

Over the years I've had, or had access to: 3DS Max, Maya, Lightwave, Cinema 4D, Carrara, etc. About a year ago I wanted to develop a conceptual prototype for an interactive 3D simulation, and Blender's built-in game engine seemed to be the cheapest route. My initial reaction to Blender, "argh, ...

I only work with Polygons so I'm not sure, but I don't think Blender does Nurbs, -but- the latest versions of Blender support "modifiers" and "lattice" which do essentially what you're asking to do. You can interactively warp and distort a mesh, change it's subdivision on the fly...

Good advice, will have another look at Blender, but compared to C4D it's interface is a horror story. Of course, anything that's unfamilair is always difficult at first - I found Zbrush odd to begin with, now I like it a lot. Cheers. I'm always surprised that guys that can figure out Zbrush (which ...

Thanks Bigkahuna - will have a look at Blink. Have tried Unity and liked it, but quite pricy, especially since it's intro pricing has finished now. Liked the look of DX Studio, but as it's PC only it's not for me, which is a pity. Can't get my head around Blender or Director 3D. To hard for a non p...

I'm using DX Studio and Unity. DX Studio is "Windows" only using DirectX and ActiveX, so you can import 2D videos and 3D characters & animations and playback locally from a HD or in a browser over the internet. I just started using Unity also. Unity's development system is Mac OS X onl...

Sorry, missed this post. This works for me. Is there a way to automate this? I'm a bit new to Macs and OSX.

Any update on this? I just got an iMac Intel Duo with OS X 10.4.7 and am not able to run Papagayo 2. Is there a work around to launch it?
