"Render Farm" Software

I remember using Animation: Master some years ago, and they separately sold a stripped-down version of their software for running 'render farms'. Basically, you pass off the file to a separate computer to do the rendering, freeing up your main computer to work on a different scene. I know that smith...

Re: Dropping by for a quick appreciation

Controlling the preview pane is fairly similar to controlling the player view in an MMO game. So if you've played one of those, you're already a step ahead.

Re: Is it possible to copy an action for a smart bone?

I managed to do this successfully the other day with a pair of feet. As Greenlaw mentioned, your layers and smartbones need to have their own name. You need to copy and paste the smartbone timeline points layer by layer. I tried to do all the layers at once, but I think Moho couldn't figure out whic...

Re: Masks in mask. Don't work?

Nested mask layers don't always appear correctly in the preview pane, but I haven't had any errors in the final rendering yet.

Color Points Feature

As I get further into Pro, I've been trying to make sure I have a solid understanding of all the features available in Debut before I get too far. One feature I never bothered to utilize much is the 'color point' feature under the fill controls. Some observations about this tool so far: - It seems t...

Re: 2.5D Fingers / Legs / Arms experiments.

I found this hand rig pretty impressive:

Though it seems to be a bit cartoonier than what you're going for. I made a three-fingered version for my own work that does the job so far.

Re: parent bone layers?

You could consider controlling some limbs/parts via target bones. You make a point bone, set the limb bone to 'target' it, and wherever you move the point bone the limb will follow.

Re: Action point movement quirk

I think we've got it. So while selecting all the points to lock in the pose of the mouth for the action, I'd been clicking on the outline of the shape. It turns out, I needed to be clicking on the interior of the selection box to get a proper frame out of it.

Re: Action point movement quirk

And these aren't controlled by smart bones? "Bevels"? Is that curvature, beziers, or something else? That's correct. There are smartbone controls for the mouth, but only for the movement of the layer, not individual points. And by bevels, I do mean beziers. I do woodworking too so I mix them up som...

Re: Action point movement quirk

Makes sure all points are keyframed in the action. Any not keyframed will allow odd interpolations from previous key. As part of my workflow, I always make sure to select all the points on the action keyframe, and their bevels. All of the other mouth actions work fine and transition between each ot...

Action point movement quirk

Ran into this one while testing a set of lip-sync actions yesterday. I make my usual set of poses, and this set has worked well with other characters. The strangest thing happens, though, on a couple of the poses, in this case it happened on the "B M P" mouth pose. The red action timeline for 'B M P...

Re: follow path

I'd add that Moho uses the layer's "center" to determine which part of it attaches to the path. The center is the blue crosshairs, and moving the center can create interesting effects. For example, if you want to make a rollercoaster car follow the path defined by the tracks, you'd adjust the center...

Re: Layer Opacity

Applying an opacity to the group/bone layer should apply it to all of the embedded layers.

Any value assigned to the layer settings of the group or bone should apply to all the embedded layers. It's handy for use with 'colorize layer' to make animated silhouettes and shadows.

Recording Pro on OBS

So I've been able to use OBS (Open Source Broadcaster) to record Moho Debut 12 for tutorials and time-lapse art several times without a hitch. I upgraded to 13 Pro on Friday and tried to record a time-lapse in OBS only to have the preview window completely black for the entire recording (the tools, ...

Re: Texture movement

Look for irregularities in your shapes. Here's a mistake I made with a character's boots that resulted in a similar error: https://youtu.be/jb250SEazic?t=801 This mistake was created by an extra line in the shape that wasn't visible until the bone was moved. You can see it at 13:27. The solution in ...
