Re: Frame by Frame animation?
Thanks for sharing this, GCharb, It's very interesting to me because I am experimenting with the same technique. My main question about FBF animation is whether it is cost-effective compared to the traditional technique. That said, can you tell us how long it took to produce this 2 sec of animation?...

Thanx, synthsin75, I'll keep that in mind on my next FBF project!

Re: Frame by frame animation
I used 27 layers as you can see here. The hands and feet needed several layers. My biggest problem was changing layer order because sometimes, for example, an arm might work behind the torso and sometimes in front. The problem was they wouldn't stay put and I had to go back and put them in their pro...

Re: Looking for a Good Anatomy Book
I also highly recommend the Andrew Loomis Figure Drawing for All It's Worth, too. It's available free for download as a PDF. Also, good for animators is How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way. Of course, all animators should have the two Muybridge books, Animals and Humans in Motion.

Re: Frame by Frame animation?
I recently did some frame by frame animation as a test to see if it would work with AS. I think it did, but there are a few caveats. First, it can only be used by working over hand-drawn animation, and that is a lot of work and you have to know how to animate. Basically, FBF replaces the traditional...

Re: Frame by frame animation
Thanks for all the interesting replies. My thinking is that Anime Studio is nothing but a big toolbox and the tools can be used however the user wants. AS can be customized to suit all kinds of styles depending on the user's background, skills, tastes, etc. I think it's far more versatile than the o...

Frame by frame animation
Hello all- I knew that the Anime Studio folks stress that they do not recommend their software for 'frame by frame' animation. I have been using AS for less than a year now and have grown increasingly aware that there might be some potential here that has not yet been explored. So I decided to see h...

Re: Question about switch layers
I think using the Visibility option in the Layer Settings panel would do the trick. But check out the manual first as it can be complicated but once you catch on it's very simple. I use it constantly in my work.

Re: Working over a .mov file
Thank you so much, Lucas! I had no idea what a codec was so I did some research. It's pretty complicated but I found one that worked perfectly so that the source video is now in perfect sync with the AS project. Basically, in Quicktime 7, I saved it as a QT movie with Animation compression. The key ...

Working over a .mov file
I'm working on a frame-by-frame project and have imported a .mov file of some hand-drawn animation I did in order to work on top of it in AS9.5. So essentially it is nothing more than rotoscoping. However, as I step thru the frames sequentially AS skips ahead and sometimes drops frames altogether. E...

Re: Switch layer not working
Thanks, Synthsin for the speedy reply. I found some funky keyframes in my actions panel so I am redoing the smart bone action for the left arm. There is one thing that is driving me nuts and that is that my bones keep turning dark green. Tech support did not give me an adequate answer for this. Do y...

Switch layer not working
I have a rigged character with Switch layers for both hands. The right hand works normally, as expected. The left hand does not. I can switch left hands but only on frame 0. When I animate the hand/arm from frame 1 on the hands will NOT switch. Any ideas why?
Thanks in advance-

Re: Lip sync: Switch layers vs Smart Bones
I've tried both systems and I prefer interpolated switch layers to bone dials. As my characters use about 25 mouth shapes, it's a lot of work but it gets the best results. There may be some combination of the two which is even better but I haven't tried it yet.

Re: Flipbook animation in AnimeStudio
I love Anime Studio but one of the features that I always felt it was missing was the ability to do flipbook style animations. i.e. "get out a Wacom and old school it! frame by frame" I was looking on the net and found this cool little app Digicel FlipBook http://www.flipbookpro.com/flipb...
