I have had an online chat with customer service, and I've been told that you must have made an official purchase from Smith Micro within 30 days prior to the release of Anime Studio 10 in order to receive a free upgrade.

Which sadly means I'm not qualified. :(

You do not get a free upgrade if you recently got the $50 9->9.5 upgrade in feb 2014. "Smith Micro Software’s Free Upgrade Policy is only available for users that have Qualified Purchases at the Regular Prices from our Online Stores on or after February 2nd 2014 but before March 5th, 2014 only...
