Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

Have a look at http://www.tvpaint.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9218 , there's even more tricks TVPaint is capable of ... Oops, I don't think Elodie liked some of my comments. It's only because I care Elodie! The problem with using CTG is the fill shapes are inconsistent, it's otherwi...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

You can read the Fusion User Manual Here for system requirements. I highly recommend studying animation old school or at least with software that is closest to old school as possible, you want to nail the fundamental principles down, which sad to say you don't often see in mainstream Japanese (or Am...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

What I did can be done with the Standard TVP (I didn't use any Pro features as far as I know, maybe when I set layer mode to sub at the end), though I think it's a bit dumb selling it as being only 32-bit, makes them look outdated and actually made me buy something else when I was deciding to buy it...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

That's awesome slowtiger. From doing it, it is still one step too many compared to Retas, but it's two steps less than what I was doing before using TVP and how people keep telling me to do it. How did you setup the shadow area? did you fill it in with the same color blue to create a mask first or d...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

From your in-depth description of the colouring process I could whip up a workflow in TVPaint as easy as this. All the elements are there, you just need to know how to use the program. Keywords: preserve transparency and colour lines, automatically fill display/above, and of course use different la...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

I can see what Syn is saying, but Retas and TVPaint are still going to be 10 years of development ahead of AS when it comes to FBF. And who's to say if they did assimilate Retas into AS with all its features, that they wouldn't double or even triple the price? That's a good point, if you have to dev...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

Any bitmap will work, infact I've never used Traceman but I'll give you a quick tutorial. Download this image: http://i58.tinypic.com/33dwg2f.png Drag it into Traceman and then press Ctrl+2 this will bring up the trace options. Copy my settings here and click the button I circled to trace: http://i6...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

I'd have to disagree, in the U.S. price would be a determining factor. But it [Retas] needs tutorials and courses in ENGLISH ! It's not a determining factor when you're comparing the price of a ripe apple to the price of an unripe orange. Autodesk Sketchbook is pocket money and it has a FBF feature...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

Really? You don't see any comparison or competition over market share by two similarly priced pieces of animation software? Syn you clearly haven't used it. You can't compare Retas and AS because that is like comparing classical animation (apples) to cut-out animation (oranges). Like it or not that...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

That's the link to the perpetual page: http://www.clip-studio.com/clip_site/tool/items/rs_d_plan And this one is for subscription: http://www.clip-studio.com/clip_site/tool/items/rs_plan My Japanese is fading by the day but basically it is saying for 30,000 GOLD (30,000 YEN) you can buy it on digita...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

SM sells AS in Japan, so I doubt they would be interested in distributing for their competitor. Then that would be ridiculous because Retas is nothing like AS, in what way are they supposed to be competitors? Here is an example I did using Retas, it took me about 15 minutes from cleanup to composit...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

@slowtiger Next thing you'll tell me is that 2D is dead, right? No, why would I say that? I'm a traditional animator. And Retas to me seems much too restricted in terms of style. You can do any hand-drawn/paper based style of animation in Retas Studio, that's what it is for. @basementProduct...

Re: Does anyone use Retas Studio?

I have Retas Studio which cost me about ¥37,000 ($300?) that I got from Amazon Japan. You need to be in Japan to get it though and you need Japanese Windows to run it. It's not difficult to use, if you know how to do frame-by-frame animation there isn't really any learning curve to it. Setup your sc...

Re: Why would anyone choose to use Animate Pro?

Nothing has changed for me. If I had to rank software for their intended use... If you want to do frame-by-frame/traditional Disney/anime/hand-drawn animation: Retas > Toon Boom Essentials > Flipbook > TVPaint Retas because it has the best inking and painting engine (for celshade) and makes doing sh...

Re: Frame by Frame animation?

I strongly suggest trying something else if you're learning how to do FBF. Recently they added FBF animation in Sketchbook Pro 7 which works really well, if you've ever used DigiCel Flipbook it's pretty much that. It's really inexpensive at $65 and makes a great companion if you're an ASP or Maya us...
