A style can be just a fill without stroke, or stroke without fill. Therefore a combination of the two will style your stroke and fill. Example is that you may want a stroke with a certain brush for just characters. You make that style, and combine it with your style for skin, clothes, etc.

Most of the time i only apply 1 style for my shapes but being able to have two styles for a shape can be useful as well.

I only ever use one style too but one could contain a fill or stroke effect too - so you can apply fill/stroke colour with 1, and some special effect you want to repeat with 2... i think?

Good tip. Such a simple idea, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks.
