Saving to an older version

Post by pihms »

Is it possible to save from AS 8 to AS 6? Many programs out there let you back track you files to an earlier version, but I can't seem to find that in AS 8.

The AS 8 file has layers, some group and switch folders but doesn't get picked up from AS 6. Nothing in it seems to be specific to 8 only.

No, you can't. A number of people have complained about this. If you know enough, you can edit the .anme file directly...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

oh.. what a tempting dangle ... are you going to say how!?!!

apart from the obvious "make sure you don't use new features.. " is it just a question of changing the

"version xx"

line to something that an earlier version of AS will recognise?

Thanks. I'll try editing the file in a text editor and see what I can do.

The differences are deeper than that. You can use a tool like WinMerge to do a file to file comparison, but because the .anme file format is not documented, you're pretty much on your own to figure it out. That said, Rudiger has announced that he is working on a tool to solve this: Saving Work in 8 for ASPro7

If anyone can do it, Rudiger's the man. :)
