I'm trying to let my character walk in the front view.

That's a hard task.
First, you should sketch your front walk animation, on paper or else. Only when you know which result you want to achieve you'll get ideas about how.
Second: create your character and rig it.
Third: Animate the bones, then adjust per point animation.
Anything more detailed must wait until you've decided for a style, the viewing angle, and the perspective of your scene.
