3d with bitmaps?

Hey there,

i have seen some head-turn and fake-3D tutorials recently and i would very much like to use this technique.
But i tend to work with layered PSDs rather than with Vector-shapes and that restricts me in some ways (e.g. smart bones).

In selgin´s amazing setup-showreel i have seen a setup of books that consist apparently of Bitmaps, but are bendable and somehow turnable in 3d. Could anyone explain me how to do that? Maybe the master himself?

i would be so grateful!

Hehe, I tried to show it clearly in the making of, but it's a fast video...
There's not 3d in that, I only used the smart bones to scale the images. The cover images start scaled to zero in X. When the smart bone rotates to the right, the right cover is scaled back to 1 (the normal scale). When the smart bone rotates to the left, the left cover is scaled to 1.
The origin of that layers is in the border, close to the back of the book.
To improve the effect, I also scaled down the book's back a little on each smart bone action. I also moved the layers a little bit to keep them aligned.
Rigging it is a very fast process once you get the logic. I hope I explained it well enough now
