efficient background trace?

the built in trace for background images function in the view menu alows no filmclips which is a must for me. ..
when i instead manually import a movie layer as a tracing background and lower its opacity under layer settings, everytime i scrub the timeline or edit vectorpoints on vectorlayers above (whose opacity i would also lower to make them semi see-through), the full opacity flickers in, which is really anoying!
so is there a workaround? a efficient tracing method in anime? or maybe a known script for better background tracing(from film sequences) with adjustable intensitys and so on.
if not i would suggest it as feature request to allow background tracing from moving pictures not only still one at a time.
