Is it possible to render the projects as a playable movie on a dvd player (as mp4)

If you wish, you can write out an .mp4 directly from Anime Studio. Just got to Export Animation and choose MP4.

Most modern DVD players are able to play a 'standalone' video file on disc, assuming you're using a codec compatible with the player. You'll need to check the specs of the DVD player for what's playable.

If you want something fancier than that, like an actual DVD, you will need a DVD authoring program. I've been using DVD Architect Pro for years. It's powerful and it produces good results but after all this time, I still feel the interface is a bit awkward. If you're on Adobe Cloud, Encore is supposed to be pretty good. If you don't need the level of complexity these two programs offer, there are simpler and less expensive programs that work well too.
