Head Turns Too Quickly Before Mouth Moves

Post by JumboCracky »

I have never been able to solve this situation where I want the head to move slowly while the mouth moves. I'd like to be able to smooth that out but I am unsure how I am to get around that.
The head turns too fast but the mouth is in motion:

The head turns as slow as I want it to, but because I erased the mouth movement.

How do I merge it together so that I can slow-turn the head and move the mouth both at once?
Download is here. Please skip to frame 640 and stop at frame 690:

Hi JumboCracky,

I watched your videos and saw your problem but when I opened up your file and used the head turn action it seemed to work fine. Does this video look like it's animating correctly? I used your head turn action a couple of times and it seems to be working o.k. so I wanted you to check this to make sure.

If this does look like it's moving correctly then I'm guessing it has something to do with the spacing of you keyframes. Are you making keyframes for the mouths or a you using the auto lip sync feature? I don't know if that would have anything to do with it at all but I'm just trying to think as to why your animation would do that.

Now I see... I just realized that the video I just sent you isn't rendering as it shows when running the animation in AS. The first turn I did should have rendered at a full side view for a could of seconds but it somehow snaps back to the original position when its rendered. Something is interfering with your smart bone action but I haven't found out what it is yet. I'll keep messing around with it and if I find something out I'll let you know! Here is the AS file with the few head turns at the beginning that I made so you can see what I'm talking about!

Sorry to post again with no answer but this is even stranger and I thought if anyone else has encountered this they might know the problem. I rendered out the first 130 frames again just to double check the error and it animated just as it should. Keep in mind this is the SAME animation as the one I just posted above but with only fewer frames rendered. You can see the head turns to a complete profile and stays all while the mouth is moving and on the first one it glitches. Does anyone have any idea as to why this would happen?

Yeah, that's the problem. I hope somebody gives the fix for us.

Hi guys... a thought... have you tried rendering to a different format (or different compression options for .mov -- e.g. such as more frequent keyframes?) --or maybe disable multi threading?

I rendered to PNG sequence and couldn't find any inconsistencies between the keyframes in the two AS files and the corresponding outputs? (or am I missing something blindingly obvious here??)

Yeah. It has nothing to do with how I render the video. It's with the fact that the head won't move "while" the mouth move. The head moves quick "before" the mouth moves and that's not at all what I want. The subject is about keyframes, not rendering.
