Timeline channels pro11 auto non functioning?

Does anyone know if there is way of reverting the timeline to display current channels as it did in pro 10? My timeline is displaying way too many channels, I have to continually scroll through. I have tried selecting Auto via the Timeline channel options which should display my current channel (pro 11 manual), but it still displays almost everything. Its a great feature but I just want it to function as it did in previous versions.

PS. I'm noticing that it is occurring most often on external referenced files. Perhaps there is nothing I can do about this.
