Is there a way to import images to timeline by number order?

Wondering how to accomplish a certain animation task? Ask here.

Is there a way to import images to timeline by number order?

Post by Bossco »

Does anybody know if there is a technique to automatically load in images that appear on the timeline as switch layers on the same frame number as they are numbered?

The reason I ask is that some people will probably create a rough animatic in some other software, and rather than needing every single frame they only need the keyframes to denote changes. So on the Anime Studio timeline I only want images to appear on the timeline according to what number they are.
For example, an image labelled pic_001 would appear at frame 1 on the timeline, pic_079 would appear at frame 79 on the timeline, ...,and so on, all images in consecutive order with the gaps inbetween.

Is there currently a way to do this?
And if not does a script exist for this particular requirement?

Thanks for the reply slowtiger, but it doesn't work.

I wasn't sure it would work, and it didn't. You don't seem to be able to have gaps between frames. You have to have them go from frame 1 onwards with no missing frames.
I only want the keyframes loaded in. Such as 'image_001.png', 'image_079.png' etc.

That's not possible with this script. (In TVPAint I have the same problem.)

Maybe someone can modify the script to get the result you want. I don't know much about scripting (almost nothing, actually), but that doesn't sound so hard

Thanks, I've just found a script on AnimatorsForum called 'syn_image_sequence' which seems to do what I require and works quite well.
The keyframes are placed exactly where they should be on the timeline.

If anyone else would also like to load in a sequence of keyframes on the timeline as switch layers, then I'd recommend that you try it out. It looks like it will be very useful for sketching basic animation out in something like PAP or TVPaint, and then using those keys as a background guide in Anime Studio.

Wow. I'd forgotten about that script. And I think I did write it to import PAP animations.

Hi, thanks for writing it. It's great.
So useful. It's perfect for sketching out animation timings in PAP and then importing the keyframes into a background layer in Anime Studio to create the final animation.
Thanks again. :D
