Vectors invisible at frame Zero

Post by Jkoseattle »

I have a bunch of vector layers. I have to go to frame 1 to see them though. I went to frame 0, checked the Visible box, applied, but I still don't see them until frame 1. Why is this?

Can you see the vector curves but without the shapes, or are the vectors missing too on frame zero?

Yeah if I have a layer selected I can see the curves, but not the shapes.

I can think of a bunch of ways to make that happen but can't tell what's happening in your project without seeing it.

Can you strip down a copy of your project to one element that's invisible at 0 but visible elsewhere, and post it for examination?

Like Dennis says, it could be many things, like animated opacity on the style, a smart bone influence, etc..

my best guess -- do you have drawing tools enabled on all frames (i.e. not just frame 0)? if so did you draw the shapes on frame 1??

Oh, yeah, I totally forgot about that one! Sounds likely a likely culprit to me too.

This is one of the reasons I keep 'Drawing Tools Only On Frame 0' disabled until I absolutely need it, and then I disable it again promptly when I'm done. Drawing on a later frame is useful when you really need to, like when you want to draw something relative to a character's pose, but if you're not careful, leaving this option on can really mess up a project. It's safer to keep this option disabled most of the time.

I never use Drawing Tools Only On Frame 0. It's easy enough to copy any errant shape keys to frame zero.

True, but for me it's not worth the hassle when working in projects with hundreds of layers. Better to prevent the problem from happening at all.
