Character Wizard to walk with background movement??

Post by Very Oldbloke »

I made a background using the driveway x3 for extra length, and can get that to scroll across the screen - fine Now set to length 1000
Using the character wizard I created a character, and using the Window, Actions, walk can get him to walk. Walk repeated to end of clip
But it is not possible to get both to move at the same time it is either the background else the character provided the actions are set to walk.
Have tried to group them with no change in end result. Appears to be a conflict in actions
How to get both to work together = background scrolls and looks like the character walks as the background moves

If you can point to an example, even a YouTube link to somebody else's animation, that would be more helpful for understanding your request.

Do you want the background to pan with the character moving with the background? In this case, just put both the walking character and the static background in a parent group, and pan the parent group. This moves both at the same rate. Tip: se the mute button the the parent group's timeline when you want to work on the character animation, then disable it when you want to work on the pan animation.

Alternatively, just animate the camera moving across the scene. This way, the character and background will 'move' together as one regardless of grouping.

With either method, if the background and character are moving at a different rate even though their layers are not animated, then they might be positioned at different Z depths. When the layer depths are different, farther layers will appear to move slower than closer layers (just like in real life.) To check this, check their Z channels or move the workspace using the Orbit tool to visually check their z-positions. If they're not at the same depth level, you need to correct this.

On the other hand, if you want the background to pan while the character is walking 'in place' (i.e., as if the camera is tracking the character,) just pan the background without grouping the character with it.

If you want to do this using camera animation instead, select the character group and enable Immune To Camera. The character will then move as if attached to the camera. (This might be over-complicating it. Just mentioning it to show there are many ways to handle these things.)
