When trying to run Papagayo on Ubuntu 10.4, I get the errorImportError: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This is because Papagayo needs libstdc++5 which is so out of date, it's simply not in the repositories anymore. Does anyone know of a workaround? I would like to use Papagayo on Linux but this is stopping me.

no problem. A 120% solution awaits (an improved version of Papagayo running natively on Ubuntu and probably most other distros). Windows Papagayo users should note there is an upgraded version there for them too...

Hi,

I tried to follow the instructions according to your post...I failed...PLEASE, is there any other way to get Papagayo to work on Linux?

P.S: Am using Ubuntu Studio 18.04.

I haven't built papagayo for a few years - it worked for me at the time of my post. I notice the Google code is still timestamped 2010. I'm not sure I'm sorry but please post here if you find a solution.

don't forget to try running that windows version in the Google code archive via wine

those download links in the wiki are to r30 version (2010) though that author did produce later versions you can download as source code.

but that stopped in 2013 and then the author notes the most current version of papgayo is now on github by Mike Clifton and is a qt app. perhaps you'll have more luck with that:

Thanks for your swift response...after so many years from your last post. Didn't even think that I would get a response.
If all else fails, I will go for the windows version using wine. I am new to Linux so will work through it - never used wine before. I recently installed Ubuntu Studio, less than a month, and replaced windows from my laptop. I love the OS. Optimized for creativity and it came with almost all of the tools I have been using on windows (I still have them on my desktop - even Papagayo). However, because of the sheer joy of working with Ubuntu Studio, I am now mostly working from my laptop so need to have all my favorite tools on it.

Isn't this for if one wants to build? I am not sure if I am ready to go that route.... , at least not at this point...

From there I was able to download the PapagayoNG-testing-2017.07.31-65704-linux-64bit.appimage. Unfortunately my computer couldn't open it. I thought that it was an excusable file. I get the error message: "Could not open. Archive Type Not Supported".
As you can see, am looking for an out-of-the-box installation....

IT WORKED! Straight out-of-the-box. I did a further search on how to open an appimage and came across a short video that opened helped me: https://youtu.be/nzZ6Ikc7juw

That's all II did to the downloaded file, made it executable and voila!

However, I am not sure if what also helped to easily install is my doing the other suggestions which where given here earlier to make the OS more receptive to installing Papagayo, (e.g: updating libstdc++.so.5), which I updated yesterday. Or perhaps the Papagayo-NG appimage had everything in it. I don't know. I am not a techy when it comes to such things.

I think the appimage is designed to work no matter what libraries you have but who knows. great that it worked. I'm going to have to take a look myself. never know when the animation bug will hit again.

The good thing about appimage file is that it is fully contained. There is no instillation so when you want to upgrade or get rid of the program you just delete the file and it's totally gone from your system. Easy in, easy out.
