Papagayo 2.0 beta 1

Well here's some unexpected good news...

Papagayo version 2.0 is now available! Right now it's a beta release, but you can get it now and give it a spin.

Version 2 is basically the same thing as version 1, at least as far as workflow goes. But the application has been completely rewritten. Papagayo was a weird hybrid Python application, and this meant it was hard to maintain, performance could be slow, and compatibility between OS versions was a problem (especially on Mac).

Papagayo 2 has been rewritten in C++ and promises a better base for going forward. I'm open to suggestions about new features, particularly other export formats. I know some people are using Papagayo with software besides Anime Studio, and I'm fully in support of that.

Anyway, go download the new version, give it a try, and let me know what you think.

Same here. It seems to just want to run the software, there's no installer, but I get the same error either way.

Shoot. OK, the Windows build is probably not going to work for anyone without the development environment set up. I'll dig into it.

OK, I've updated the Windows zip file. Please give it another try.

I'll build an installer for it once everything's settled down, but for now you can just unzip the file and double-click Papagayo.exe.

Trying to open a wav or pgo file gives me an "Error opening audio file" message and crash on XP.

Sorry, I guess it doesn't work in XP, then.

This truly is great news, at least going forward.

Assuming it works exactly as the old version, the first change that needs to be made is that it should space out the dialog evenly among the waveform (after subtracting the silences at the end and beginning of the file). I actually have a Lua procedure I run in AS that does just that and makes using PG 100% better for longer sequences.

But I have LOTS of ideas how it can be improved (using PG makes up about 25% of my workflow, since our shows are dialog driven, so I have a lot of experience along these lines). I'll post as I get the time.

Works on my Mac, which is a great improvement over the versions before ...

Now I'd like to know what's necessary to add new phonemes and a new language?
