many problems with one project...

This has become frustrating to use now. I have a simple character rigged with target bones setup (for legs). I had worked on other animation projects, then came back to this.

The rig already has 2 actions. Some of the problems are that importing/exporting no longer works for some reason. It'll import layer keys but not the bones. Was hoping to import a previous action so in the final product (it's in game maker, character does various animations) would look somehwat fluid when I edit from a previous action.

More problems occur when I load the file, all the bone keyframes are gone on one of my actions, but for some reason one of the other one is fine.

Since import/export could not work, I thought w.e, gonna re-animate from scratch, its just gonna look a bit off in the final thing. But the tthe legs with target bones behave more strangely. In the previous actions which I had not touched in this current session, the legs bend properly, even though I did no special modifications to them. But when I make a new action (or even in mainline) the legs bend backwards for some reason and will not bend forward no matter what. I tried doing an ik restraint but it bends weird. It just stays straight until i move the whole rig down more past where the target bones are and it finally bends from 0 to -90, no proper rotation.

The project file is here

Anyone know how I can fix this? I don't know if you'll be able to see the other actions but if u can check out the idle and ull see the rig works the way i want to but when u try to do it in mainline or new action there'll be problems.

Hi,
I'm not exactly sure what's happening with your actions, but after looking at the file, maybe I could suggest a few other things.
Firstly with the legs.
It is a good idea to give them a little bend on frame 0, this assures the direction they will bend far better.

I think your model would work better if you separated the feet from the legs into another layer and try some other binding techniques.
You might even want to do the same with the thighs and the calves.

Also, do you know about the pixel art render?
You probably do and have chosen your method with good reason.
If not, open project setting, increase your resolution and play with the pixelation settings.
