Consistent layer blending within groups...

Post by heyvern »

This would be a god send.

Currently layer blending (screen, multiply, etc) does not effect layers "below and outside" of its group the same as inside of the group.

The group layer blending "over rides" the layer blending of the sub layers... sort of.

For instance. For a face I have a gradient fill on a layer with white at one end and black at the other end with the fill color a normal skin tone. The black end of the gradient is set to 0 alpha.

When that layer is set to screen it only "lightens" at the white end. The dark end is "invisible" so it blends in with the. It is like having a soft edge fill that fades to transparency instead of to a color.

If a layer set for screen is placed in a group or bone layer that is set to normal layer blending... the screen layer doesn't appear the same over the layers outside of that group.

In the example above the black shows up because it isn't taking into account the layers below it. Screen against "nothing" causes the black to show up.

My request would be to have sub layers in a group act the same with layer blending as they do outside the group. They should interact with the layers outside or under the group the same as inside it.

This would be absolutely fantastic. It would create the ability to do some amazing gradated shading effects within any type of group.

Hope this makes sense.
