Yeah, the upgrade is the full install for 8, same install file.
It installs itself into its own directory, so You could have both 7 and 8 installed, which I recommend at first.
Keep 7 installed, keep working in it, but install 8 as well, so You can go through the new version and get acquainted with it before loading your working files in it.
Just a suggestion of course!

AS7 and AS8 are independent of each other.
Even if you purchase an upgrade from version 7 to version 8. What you get is a fully independent new software with its own serial number.
You cannot make your own copy of Anime Studio become Illegal by messing with your installs. You are free to install and uninstall as needed on your personal computers.
You could make your serial Illegal by sharing the serial number with others or installing on a public computer that someone else whom you didn't know, then took the serial and used it elsewhere. If you are working on your own personal computers, this wouldn't be a problem though.
I recommend registering the product when you first install it, then Smith Micro has a record that it was you who bought it and that Serial number XX is yours.
Have fun with the software I hope you enjoy using version 8.

its like upgrading an orange to an orange shaped banana - you can't change the orange into a banana, so you have to be given a banana that just looks like an orange instead.
Distinct sun says it's ok to keep the orange, incase you don't like banana - but don't leave the peel laying around, you might slip over.
