Looking for a Good Anatomy Book

Post by Mistro »

Hi,
I am in the market for some good reading material on anatomy. There are many books and material on this subject. I was just wondering what users in this community would suggest as some good references that really help with animation, going beyond still poses. Learning some movement mechanics in relation to muscles and skeletons etc. would be nice but I don't know the best places to look.

So far I see a book called "Anatomy for the Artist" http://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Artist-Sa ... 078948045X

And this http://www.amazon.com/Atlas-Anatomy-Art ... gy_b_img_y

And then this list http://store.doverpublications.com/by-s ... tists.html

I could use some advice here. Thanks in advance.

When I was teenager, my interest was in comic art and the most recommended book was Figure Drawing for All It's Worth by Andrew Loomis. I've bought many art instruction books since then, but this classic book gave me a solid foundation for drawing and animating.

Whatever book you buy though, be sure to complement what you learn with some life drawing.

This is on my wish list. I guess it isn't an anatomy book, but since life drawing was mentioned, I thought it might be of interest.

I also highly recommend the Andrew Loomis Figure Drawing for All It's Worth, too. It's available free for download as a PDF. Also, good for animators is How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way. Of course, all animators should have the two Muybridge books, Animals and Humans in Motion.

Thanks for your suggestions.
I actually found a good link over at WetCanvas with a link to some Andrew Loomis titles. (as you mentioned neeters_guy and Furpuss)

Yeah there are a couple more in the series too, on character design and animal drawing, I am going to try and check them all out if the first one is good.
