Large Character Files

Post by coatsiecoates »

Does a large character file make a difference in render time if there are parts of the character not being used?

For instance, I have a character that uses a variety of props. It's handy to have one character with a switch group that houses a hand holding a shovel, one with a hammer, one with a bottle, etc. that I can call up instantly. Does having all of those in the file make a difference if only one of those layers has points on the screen at one time?

I've been updating my character each time I make a prop, but before it gets too bloated, I'd like to know if it'd be a better idea to simply have a separate character for each of the utensils and call up a particular version of that character as needed.

In my experience, everything switched off or invisible doesn't influence render time. What I do, however, is to make stuff invisible as long as it's outside the project window. This might be chickenwaving.
