They made a Linux version a long, long time ago. According to sum rumors there was almost no sales. If it was as easy as 'Run build for Linux' and everything worked with only a few bugs they would most likely have a Linux version.
Some people have gotten it to work with a windows emulator, but my experiences with Linux is that emulators and windows aren't the same thing.

I'm still a ways away from doing this myself, but Windows 10 got me thinking about this sort of thing, and I found out you can run Windows itself on a Virtual Machine inside Linux.
It's a solution, but it is a bit overkill.
