Oh, yeah, for editorial you should use a movie file. I never load an image sequence in a video editing program unless it's to compile the movie for re-import. (Which, TBH, I don't really do. I do always use PNG sequence* in a compositing program though, and output a movie file for editorial from there.)

FYI, for editorial, instead of using non-compressed, I usually use a codec that has lossless or near lossless compression. On Mac, ProRes 444 or 422 is the way to go; on Windows I've been using MagicYUV 444 or 422. (422 is usually fine for most things unless you're planning to do some other processing to the footage later on.)

*That is, when working with Moho output. I prefer EXR from an animation program when the option is available.

Greenlaw, thanks for all your tips! Maybe you (or anyone else) know how to solve another annoyance of mine? I use a 4K monitor on Win10, and when I have a palette turned on as well as advanced options, my layers go off the screen (see screen grab: http://i63.tinypic.com/kafsp.jpg )

Obviously I can uncheck those options or hide the palette to see my layers again, but I'd rather Moho would just scroll.

Also, my cursors in every tool are so tiny. The only way I've been able to get them larger/normal size is manually hack the program's png files for the tools I use most often in Moho's Resources folder, but if I update or re-install, those get wiped out, and I have to re-copy the altered png files to the folder. Not an ideal solution.

I have a high dpi compatibility mode turned on in the Properties for the Moho exe, which solves a lot of scaling issues, but in general, working with a 4K monitor comes with a lot of growing pains in many applications, not just Moho. I am really crossing my fingers that the next version addresses this, as 4K monitors are becoming a lot more common these days.

Greenlaw wrote:A few tips:

If you're on a budget, for compositing, I highly recommend Black Magic Design's Fusion...they have a free version that has most of the features found in the Studio version, and the Studio version is very inexpensive for it's capabilities. (Now under $300...at one time, it cost $5000 and even recently it cost about $1000.) I used Fusion almost every day for compositing and visual FX in 'The Box' at Rhythm & Hues for about 12 years, and Fusion is still my favorite compositing program. It's very powerful, fast and easy to use. BTW, it's what I used to composite Scareplane with.
Also, for some reason, for years now if you've purchased a Fusion Pro dongle ($300), you also can use it to open DaVinci Resolve Studio ($300) without buying a separate license. (But it doesn't work the other way) Why? I dunno! :) But for now it's a pretty sweet deal.

IMO, you should un-dock the Style window...as well as Actions and Tools.

I always leave my Style, Actions and Tools windows un-docked. This way I can always maximize the vertical space for my Layers, which I think is way more important. Also, I find it useful to be able to move the Actions, Style, Tools, and other windows closer to the screen area I'm working on. If I leave these windows docked, I have to keep mousing back and forth, which gets super annoying especially on a large screen.
Until recently*, I had been working at 4k res on my 17-inch laptop, which by default makes Moho's tool cursors look super tiny. To address this, I set my Windows scaling to 200%, which forced Moho look correct its UI for this screen.

For some programs (other than Moho) I also need to enable 'Override high DPI scaling behavior' and select one of the three list options. First I select 'System (Enhanced)'; that usually works for me. If it doesn't do what I need, then I try Application and then System. Actually, you should try them all because they each behave differently...sometimes the difference is subtle (UI elements scaled or positioned slightly differently,) sometimes drastic (i.e., completely unusable,) and hopefully one of them is perfect. As mentioned, I don't need this for Moho, just some (mostly) older programs I use.

(*Ok, so why "until recently"? I've been busy recording screen videos and recording at 4k res was causing too many headaches for me with some programs, and it was just easier to drop it down to FHD. But now I'm finding that most of the programs I use actually work better at FHD in general on this computer, so I'll probably keep it that way. To me, 4k isn't terribly useful on a 17-inch and smaller screen anyway. I'd probably feel differently if I had a larger display (like the one I use at work, I guess.))

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I thought 4K was going make everything way too small for me so I went with dual 2K monitors. Even at that when in Hit Film the frame lines are barely visible on the timeline (1 px).

I know this isn't that pertinent, but as an addition to the comment I made above, I'm reading from people I know who know things that the Resolve dongle now opens fusion too.

Yeah, it sounds like Fusion is now built-into Resolve or otherwise integrated.

I downloaded Resolve but haven't checked to see if it works with my Fusion dongle yet. Will post again after I get a chance to try.

Hello everyone.. I can see that nobody talks about Moho 13 any more. I get impression that I'm reading wrong topic.
It's to bad that software with so much potential apparently has no future ... I would love if somebody can show me that I'm wrong.

I think what yo're saying is a bit premature. I think it's the Motion Artist forum you want.

'Stuff' will be shown when it's ready. :)

In the meantime, I suggest using Moho 12.5...it works great!

It does break the covenant where the artist's work is their own, any subscription model locks your work to a payment scheme, that is not acceptable.
Imagine having to pay a rental fee for a picture you painted... Nope
In my quest to completely abandon Adobe, I came across Affinity Photo. I was curious if anyone had any experience with this software? Seems like a cheap replacement for Photoshop?

No personal experience with Affinity but I've heard a lot of good things about their products from ex-Adobe users.

Sorry, I don't personally have a solid recommendation for a complete Photoshop alternative but for bitmap drawing and painting, I've been dabbling with Krita lately and I really like it and it works great with Moho. Krita is open source so free to download and use. If you like it, please donate to the project. (At this point, I'm impressed enough that I'm thinking of sending them a second donation.) :)

Thanks! I'll check that out. Humble Bundle just had a sale on Vegas and Sound Forge, so, that should replace Premiere and Audition. I'm getting there!

I have Affinity photo & designer (work more with photo) - so far for web graphics (not yet for animation).
Personally I love it - it is simple and intuitive and I enjoy it way more than when I used to use adobe & photoshop.
