Advanced cut-out character animation course anyone?

Hello everyone!

In the past I talked about making an advanced cut-out character animation course, the reference here is something in the range of Tangled the series, now that I am getting back to 2D animation, for good I hope, I am putting time aside for such a project!

I would like to know if this is of interest to the community and if it is, what would you like to learn in such an intermediate to advanced course?

Here is the official trailer for the Tangled the animated series and the first 5 minutes from the movie Tangled Before Ever After!

Absolutely, and one of the things that I find is missing for Moho, are advanced tutorials, plenty of beginner's tutorials, but there is a lack of advanced tutorials IMHO!

I agree -- I'd like to support you in this, if I can afford it!

Cool of you to offer, if this goes commercial, there will be a pre-sale period with a major cut in price, I will keep you guys posted!

Chad covered it in his tutorial in Udemy, but I think he skimp out in exploring smart warp. You might look to see where you can expand on it!

Chad covered PSD rigging and animation I think, I haven't seen the course, but I doubt it is the same thing that I have in mind!

So its not a cut out of a picture? What do you mean by cutout?

'Cut-out style' is, traditionally speaking, where the elements are cut out from paper and animated on a plane. Think Terry Gilliam's kooky animations from Monty Python's Flying Circus, or the movie Twice Upon A Time.

In the digital world, it's kind of a broad term but the concept is generally same: the parts (head, torso, limbs,) of the character are in separate layers and animated; how the elements are drawn, photographed, or whatever, doesn't really matter, the animation just isn't drawn frame-by-frame. Programs like Moho, After Effects, and Harmony take it a step further by allowing you to add deformers like transforms, mesh warping and bones.

Many Moho animations are a cut-out style hybrid because you can mix the style in Moho with other animation techniques including bones with IK, procedural, dynamics, and FBF.

* production-proven workflow
* scene organisation with multiple characters
* organising and updating rigged assets across scenes
* single rig that does it all vs. scene-specific rigs

Everything that goes beyond rigging a single character is welcome.

The videos I have posted are actual cut-out with point animation, all vector, and all done in Toon Boom!

Traditional cut-out used to be called limited animation, think of the old Flintstones cartoons, in the digital era the term cut-out got broaden to include other techniques, like point animation, you can achieve near hand drawn animation quality with what is still considered cut-out these days!

Thanks for your input Marc!
