Red or Blue Background In When Creating SBD

Hi,
Quick question,
What does the blue/red timeline background color when creating SBD (smart bone dial) mean?
When I apply changes to a specific layer which is inside a masking group while creating smart bone action the bg color changes to red instead of blue, and the bone whichs usually highlighted disappears. however the changes I make do apply when I test the SBD. So, why does this happen, should I expect trouble later?
