Text Layer Errors

I've been working a bit with Text Layers lately and have run into a quirk that is turning a bit restrictive. From time to time, changing the text in a text layer will cause the frame box to visibly re-size, but the text completely disappears. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't find any rhyme or reason behind when the error happens.
