Tiny Circus -- The History of Blue

Post by Steverino »

Last Saturday I took part in a fun workshop with Tiny Circus, a roving band of stop-motion animators dedicated to creative collaboration. Our local group consisted of around 20 people ranging in age from 12 to 65, most of whom had never made animation before.

In the morning we brainstormed ideas and created a storyboard. After lunch we broke into two groups. One made a set, props, and characters from cut paper. The other recorded music and sound effects on a portable digital recorder. Then came the actual frame-by-frame animation using a Dragon controller with a digital SLR camera. That finished about 6:00 pm. Tiny Circus members edited it all together in Final Cut Pro, and it was shown on the town square later that evening along with other Tiny Circus animations. By Wednesday it was up on YouTube:

What a cool workshop that must have been! And the result is excellent. Animation, music, story, characters - it's all there. Excellent collaboration.
