Yep , that is incredible, even for super expensive software.

I have wanted to sink my teeth deeper into Blender, which I totally will , when the UI/mouse and basic interaction stuff get's it's loooooong loooong awaited workover.
Until then it's incredible but sadly unattainable due to the elitist and inflexible/unintuitive default setup.
Ironic since the amazing people that make it hate the elitism of the expensive software that excludes users by outpricing them.
Instead they excluded by being confused and made to feel dyslexic in their thousands.

Exactly my words!

But I see some light now: a friend of mine has offered to teach me Blender, in exchange for teaching her other software.

I dabble with Blender every few years, thinking I might use it at least as a supporting program for other 3D programs I use, but then I give up because of the UI.

I have to admit though, they keep making great shorts and adding amazingly cool stuff to the software. I may need to give Blender another try soon. :)

Blender resembles that story about 3 blind men touching an elephant: one touches the tail, and says it's a rope; one touches a leg, and says it's a tree; and one touches the trunk, and says it's a snake. I must say I feel like a blind man when I try to learn Blender!

The upcoming V2.8 GUI is being completely reworked. It should be much more 'standard', whatever that means, of course.

Personally since V2.5 I've never had issues with Blender's usability. In terms of configurability I do have a number of pet peeves, such as the inability to control which tools and panels to hide depending on the workspace. That is not possible.

Simple you just need to know these 3 things in edit mode. g for grab.r for rotation and s for size

The old Blender UI (15+) years ago was bad. I have used a few of the $$$ 3d program professionally as a job, and Blender is just as powerful and the UI is pretty nice.
Blender is slowly getting into commercial and Hollywood, And the new render engine is keeping with up the pros. Also, some of the Tree and gound packs are stellar. And speaking of stellar. Just look at some of the things Gleb Alexandrov is doing.

Blender is up there with the big boys. No question.

Back when I was with Rhythm & Hues Studios here in Los Angeles, the team I was part of, occasionally used Blender to generate vfx elements for commercials and video game cinematics. Also, the R&H group in India used it routinely for commercials and music videos. They made a ton of Blender tutorial videos that they shared with us too. Sigh! Wish I kept that stuff, although the videos are probably all out-of-date by now.

I have the 2.8 beta installed now ready to play with. Sigh, again. If I only had time for it. :P
