running cycle critique

Post by grady1017 »

Hey folks!

Been a while since I posted, but just wanted to show this run cycle (WIP hence the missing left hand!)...I like it for the most part...there's just something...off.

I think it's his legs. Are they too long? Move too fast?

Any critiques and 2-cents are welcome! Thanks!

Well, where does he put his weight, and where does he get his momentum from? Not from his legs because they're straight and stiff while his feet connect to the ground. I think that's the mistake: no bending in the weight bearing leg, and no straightening from that before lift off.

Thre's no secondary movement either -- his coat-tail looks like it's made of sheet metal. Nice character though.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

It also appears that the ankles are locked adding to the overall stiffness of the run like slowtiger said.

Ah, thanks guys! I see what you mean about the legs not bending under his weight before lift-off. And yeah the ankles are pretty stiff as well, now that you pointed it out.

Coat tale movement was still in the WIP section, I just hadn't gotten around to it yet. Wanted to finalize his running motion first. Happy to hear you like the design!

I'll make some changes and post another video. Thanks again for the help guys! Much appreciated!

Hey guys just wanted to share the finished video with ya!

You can see the updated run in there. I made some changes...they're subtle, but I think the running does look better now. Thanks again for all you guys' help!
