Transparent background?

Post by Hellyar »

Hello,
Is it possible to export an animation (i.e. a character) with a transparent background, please?
This is so I can place it in Premiere Pro without having to key.
I think I understand that this can be achieved with Flash... but with many serious downsides.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

You need to export in a format which can accommodate transparency, like 32-bit PNG format. If it is a sequence of files, a PNG sequence is one of the export choices in "Export Animation". Type in a name (eg, horse), and the program will export a sequence of files like horse_0001, horse_0002 etc. A transparent background is the default.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Thankyou.
When you say a sequence of files, does that mean one file per frame?
So in a 10 minute sequence, there would be 14400 files?

Thank you.
I understand (-ish!) that QT is limited to 32-bit. Or was. If so, does that mean I need to use the 32-bit version of AS? And, if so, can I use a file created in 64-bit and open it in 32-bit for export?
Cheers.

yes, you can do all the work in 64 bit then when ready to render just go to file and look for the 32 bit version and it will restart the program in 32 bit with the work still intact.

It depends on the codec. Some codecs support alpha (transparency).

If you're on Windows Lagarith is a pretty good lossless codec. But PNG sequences still have a better lossless compression and are supported by many programs.
