Thanks for the kind words pihms.
I guess you have a point. it does help and encourage people to use Moho by having the content out there.

as long as it's of good quality?! IMO there was so much junk on CP that both made a poor showreel for Moho as well as putting off potential customers who'd have to trawl through spam, as someone earlier put it, to find the gems. Too many online stores (and I'll include big players such as Amazon in this comment) don't have sensible search / filter services that customers can tune (e.g. "always exclude XXX from results you show *me*) to their needs.

Agreed hayasidist.
Not to mention, I don't think I have ever seen anything other than 3D related material on Renerosity. Why would one go there for anything 2D related in the first place?

I've spent over 200$ buying 2D moho content at content paradise.
I simpethise with what most people are saying, but I'll also say this: name one modern character on sale which uses some of Moho's most advanced features. NOT A SINGLE ONE. No face turns. No dials. No pin bones. Nothing. They're usually pretty simple rigs made with AS 8.
Is there a market for (more expensive, more advanced) characters? we'll probably never know because nobody has ever tried it.

I know exactly what you are talking about and from a content providers POV it all just became impractical. Really good Smart Bone setups are quite hard and complicated to do. If you were to charge for the time spent on making just one of those type of rigs it would be way to expensive. Like I said...I created one product that took 3 days to create and it never even sold one copy. The driving factor was sales. Demand was so unpredictable it wasn't worth anyone's time to do anything but simple rigs....(these are just my thoughts based on experience btw). Plus, after you create any product you had to spend hours making tutorials, splash screens, written descriptions, license agreements etc, not to mention, it was sooo slow to upload all this to CP.
Imagine you had to do all this and face the reality that you would never sell one copy? I would rather do a free tutorial on a new Moho technique or create a good discussion on the Moho forum. (I have done my fair share of those).

To be honest, I did use dials with many of my characters, such as The Scientist https://www.contentparadise.com/ProductDetails?id=30161, the stick figures https://www.contentparadise.com/ProductDetails?id=29894, The Silhouette Man https://www.contentparadise.com/ProductDetails?id=22364, and about half of my other characters as well as many of my props. I was making a little something from my sales each month, and it was slowly growing recently as I was adding more content. The Silhouette Man actually did the best, to my surprise. But, then most were created in more advanced versions such as Anime Studio 9 on up. AS 8 made it a little more difficult to make the dials and various morphs.

I agree that there was some pretty awful stuff out there that made Moho look amateurish, but there needs to be professional quality work to show what it is really about. The reason why I started selling was I had the professional art background, found this great software that I wanted to learn, created some props and characters and thought why not try to make a little money off the time I spent creating those instead of letting them go to waste. I spend way less time creating the Pics to display the item then I do to create the prop or character.

People like Charles Kenway, Tom Roth, and Troy Picou, to name a few create such outstanding works, people would gobble them up if they sold their work on the marketplace. On Content Paradise, we see ToonProps, Cartoon Solutions, Cartoons 101, DK Toons, and Rudiger, also to name few, that provide art work that others are not able to create. But, more content needs to be produced to cover the different needs of the users.

I contacted Smith Micro yesterday, they assured me that Renderosity would have a section for 2D content, including for Moho. In the letter that we received yesterday from Content Paradise they said, "This includes Content Paradise vendors who sell non-Poser content as well".

Like I said before, it's no work for me to have them port it over and keep adding any sales to the occasional check, and I'll have fun creating more, when I'm in the mood. I also look at it sort of like those occasional animation contest, what kind of fun character or prop can I make using some of the advanced features of Moho and see what kind of sales can I get from it.

I hope to see more people moving their work, I wouldn't want to be the only one when we have so many talented artists/animators

That's good news about Renderosity; I'll keep an eye on that website and see how it goes.

I'm a little ambivalent about advanced rigs. From the seller's point of view, it does narrow potential sales. As a buyer, since there's no standard method for smart bones dials, you can't know ahead of time if a rig will work for you. (Some have tried, eg., Strider's "M1" spec.) OTOH, more content would allow the best stuff to rise to the top.

I have purchased your rigs and they are very clean rigs, so I hope to see more stuff from you.

Hi y'all :)
interesting conversation.
The thing about renderocity is the same as content paradise.

Neither look like a marketplace I could imagine many ( Moho) serious customers lurking around.
That poser stuff is worlds away from what would be in the mind of many typical moho users (apart from the good quality stuff as mentioned above).... it's all this highly polished 3d soft porn glamour dolls) yeeek! :?
Surely a bright-eyed new enthusiast with a passion for 2d animation would handbrake at the very sight of all that latex and lipstick.
They aren't at the shop all sweaty and breathing heavy, well maybe but surely Moho customers are more likely to have their pants on

Surely another outlet might be better?
Could the vendors like DK Cartoon Solutions set up a more appropriate marketplace of their own?
I thought about doing it myself and inviting you guys in,( at squarebrush.com) but I just have so many things on my plate right now already.
Would it be that difficult? Then the stuff for sale could be curated so that not too much trash is in the shop window and it could have a much more Moho-centric nature.
What's so great about renderocity?

Great suggestion chucky. I am also quite busy but I would be I'd be happy to be involved. Unfortunately my web page shopping cart making skills are limited to a Paypal button. if one person were to run it as a collective there would have to be some type of remuneration to cover hosting etc???

Ideas?

I've been running woocommerce and it seems to work flawlessly... oh I had one customer with a problem but I think t was the very first one, the trick would be dividing it all up...it probably isn't that hard really. Digital content is pretty much set and forget.

Very interesting! I agree, Renderosity does have a little too much risque type content to make it appear a professional store for what I would think that an animator looking for the right content might go to. I too have thought about creating a store, but the thought of handling the accounting with payout to those that are sellers, taxes, refunds,... it's kind of out of my league to peruse, though the idea sounds intriguing.

What are your thoughts on a site that is much like a Moho Mall, a group of stores, so to speak, that each are selling their own content for 2D animation, each with their own checkout. I would almost feel that after many other talks that have come up, that there would have to be some quality control and restrictions. Would WooCommerce allow for something like that?

pihms that is a great idea! After all it's all about attracting traffic with a lot of different content. This will attract more people than just one shop with one style which is the thrust behind these content sites. I still feel a collective will have to contribute some way to a single site manager/management to cover hosting, etc. I guess we could all go out and make our own sites then join them in a ring but that sounds so 20 years ago :)
