Shapes not filling

Post by Jkoseattle »

I have created a couple dozen vector layers which I created by tracing over images (these are various hand gestures I want to use). Most of the layers are complex shapes with multiple polygons and extra lines coming off them. When I go to Create Shape, the entire layer is selected and checkered correctly, but the shape does not fill, I only get the stroke. Other layers just as complex are filling normally. I assume this has something to do with how I built the vectors, but I don't know what that would be, nor do I know how to fix it. Help?

this can happen if you have (e.g.) "complex" branched paths inside a fillable shape.

One solution is to have two shapes -- one for fill using the "outside" points, and one for stroke using all the points.

Or remove the complex branches. Image here to guide that process: https://i.ibb.co/w47Tm1K/unfilllables.png

I see, thank you. How does one “break a link” with a point?

the "delete edge" tool (default shortcut D)...

if you have a segment that you wish to reconnect: add a new point (Add Point tool, A) close to the point where you want to break it, then delete the short segment (delete edge tool, D) that you've just created. At the other end, join the end point to a "clean" part of the main shape.
