Finally 14

Post by slowtiger »

Just an announcement that I finally got a new Mac Mini and successfully set up a Cintiq and Moho 14. Good news: pen pressure is recognized in 14, as it wasn't in 13.5.

This is the first new Mac I bought in more than 20 yrs, all other machines were 2nd hand. Hopefully that new setup will last 20 yrs as well!

Well, the first thing I did was testing the dreaded alpha issue. I was hoping for new OS and new FinalCut version would be more playing nice.

Surprise: it doesn't.

The codec menu in OS 13 is the same as in 10.15. Instaling FC doesn't add any more options. Havin Moho 14.1 and FC 10.7.1 on the same machine is no improvement.

The only working path (and let's be grateful that there is one) is to render in ProRes PNG-alpha, which cannot be played in Quicktime player, but will import to and work with alpha in Finalcut.

Hi, fellow Mac Mini user.

I exported an animation in Moho 14 of a character without a background and preserved the transparency.

I did not use MOV (ProRes). I used MOV (PNG alpha-PCM).

Quicktime would not play the rendered video, but I dropped it into DaVinci Resolve and it worked.

EDIT: Oh, by the way, if anybody knows anything about MOV (PNG alpha-PCM), please share. I used a search engine, but found nothing. I'd like to know more about it. So far, it seems great.
