My kneejerk response was to say yes, but after looking at the relevant API, I can only use PNG for the image buttons and rendering PNGs by script defaults to transparency...which is the background you're seeing.

BUT, you can just put a background layer of your desired color below your layers, and this will render. Easy peasy.
