Cut-out animation

Post by Lost Marble »

Most Moho animation uses vector shapes, but sometimes somebody uses image layers to do cut-out style animation. Pasha Egorov sent us an example using lots of cut-out image layers (plus a few particle effects). What do you think? (It's the first movie - Parabellum - on the page below.)

this is excellent!
it seems like it use a lot of switch layers too, to bring characters to life
I am curious, how much bone anim is there in it?

Great work and thank you for sharing!

best regards

Sorry, I can't answer any questions about how it was done, and I don't know if the creator visits this forum. Pasha, are you here?

I like the use of depth and the jolty-ness. Kind of reminds me of the Modest Mouse or Frans Ferdenade(sp) video.

Selgin...

South Park would be called "cut out" style (it is done in "3d" with Maya but it is still that style).

Terry Gilliam's animations done for Monty Python would also fall into this category.

Basically it is the style of using bits of cut out paper and animating their motion over time... this could be photographs... or construction paper... painted artwork that is cut out and animated... etc.
