Using ASP for illustration
I wanted to apply for an illustration job that might have also included some animation, so I spent the weekend building an on-line portfolio just to showcase some stuff, I've probably missed on the job by now but I wanted to get something up to showcase 2D work anyway. I needed a splash page type image to fill the screen of the website so as well as doing some new animation and cutting a show-reel and building the web page I also created the illustration, and I used ASP instead of Photoshop or Illustrator.
I went for a clean vector style, as always, I doodle things on paper first and then try to translate that into the computer.
Also here's the reel which includes a new piece of animation of a flying saucer-man that I did to fill out the mid section, created in one night. What I love about ASP is that you can draw things, and those things have the potential to be animated.

Nice characters -- and the animation looks good too!
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Your designs are terrific and inspiring! I really like your clean 'retro' looks.
Great job and that's for sharing it.

I did another illustration with ASP, I think doing illustrations with it is good rehearsal for when you might want to do an animation because you just learn how to use the tools, masking, gradients and all that. I've discovered lot's of little things just by doing these two images so I can be less hesitant next time I want to create in it.

Yeah, I'm sure it was a great job, no pressure to perform and a nice paycheck. Here's another one, perhaps the last for a while as I'm going to try doing something in Illustrator for comparison.
