Major Software Loading Issue

Post by Little Yamori »

Sorry---I posted this in General Discussion, but i guess it should have been here instead

I made a ticket with smithmicro, but it's worrisome since there is no longer support for ASP11, but I'm not sure this is a support issue for the product function, but rather an administrative error, since they are denying a valid serial number on a valid machine

I'm using AS 11.2 Pro in windows, have been for years, and I just went to work on a file this evening and I get a pop up from the software telling me that my serial number has exceeded the number of allowable computers (and so it won't launch). But I have not added any new computers and am unable to deactivate and reactivate on the smithmicro site or deactivate url provided. This is extremely disturbing that an external action has rendered my legally purchased hard copy software....useless.

Has anyone else experienced this? I have an email in to smithmicro, but have not heard back yet

LY

Thankful nonetheless

I *think* that the older versions of Moho (pre 13) no longer use the activation server. Meaning that the "we can't find the server" error is interpreted by the "old" version of 11 that you had as "you've got too many activations".

Anyone on pre 13 versions should take a look at this post and seriously consider downloading the "final" version as listed on the SM website under Moho 12: https://my.smithmicro.com/#collapse37

Now I'm worried I run ver 11 on Mac is the Mac also affected? If so what steps do I take? When and if this happens.
Very worried.

this is the link for the "final" version of 11.2 for Macs https://my.smithmicro.com/downloads/Ani ... .2-Mac.dmg

(for anyone else following along - expand the Moho 12 / Anime Studio dropdown on the https://my.smithmicro.com/#collapse37 page -- that gives download links for 10,11 and 12 for Macs and Windows)

My advice is to grab the download(s) you need while you can ... even if you don't install for a while

Thanks hayasidist: for your reply and the link.
But now I worried and confused, (Little joke there very little)
does this imply that version 11.2 on the mac (the link you gave) fixes the problem or is just a safety precaution for re-install when and if it does happen?
again thanks.

the short, straight answer is "don't know". The longer answer is: I grabbed the ones I needed (windows) and did a preemptive re-installation (I was at a convenient breakpoint plus I had all the important stuff - including such as the Program Data info on settings / licence etc safely backed up) and that all went smoothly.

Using the 'final' installer for your version Moho means if SM decides to shut down the license server, you can continue to run that version on your computer indefinitely.

Not the most comforting thought for Moho's future but at least it means things won't end abruptly. Hopefully, SM (or a new owner) will start up Moho development again before too long.

FWIW, I grabbed the 'final' installers for all the versions that got one. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this thread so far. Hopefully it will not happen but if it does I have the backup now.
