Tree Tutorial-Line Width Tool not working

I widen the points as mentioned in the tutorial but nothing happens. Attached above is the video of my attempt.

Select the shape with the select shape tool to see if it has a stroke in the style window. If not, hit the checkbox to add one.
Make sure strokes are enabled in the display settings and layer quick settings.
Make sure the stroke hasn't been hidden by the hide edge tool.
