What was that name again? – Animated loop for my Moho Webinar

Post by JoelMayer »

Hi Guys

The opportunity to host a Moho Webinar has given me a kick in the butt to finish this little guy whom i had sitting on my harddrive for a while.

Was inspired by the awkward situation when you're in a call with somebody and never really caught their name and then it's time to say goodbye...

Love the retro look! Reminds me of old DePatie-Freleng cartoons.

Good luck with the Webinar, Joel! :)

A favourite style of mine as well (see my https://vimeo.com/683946372. Of course Moho's strength is the smooth transformation, but I think this style asks for mouth shapes with sharp changes, not interpolation. But of course that's a personal design choice.

I like the stuff you did with the speech bubble!

I agree in this case i was watching a lot of Richard Williams' 60's commercials which were more "design-y" but had just as elaborate animation as anything so i guess was influenced there  Better luck next time haha... fwiw i did, as usual, do a lot of manual inbetweening to at least get some more "snap" in the breakdowns but i'll show that off next wednesday 8)

Over the last 2 yrs I did _a lot _ of lipsync animation and experimented with several ways: fully automatical, switch with and without interpolation. I found that in a mainly interpolated switch lipsync I can get snappiness in when needed by just duplicating the last key and put it right before the next.

I should note that I'm not really comfortable with fully automated nor Preston Blair phoneme set lipsync. For most purposes I now use a very reduced set of 6 to 8 mouth shapes:
MPB
WF
A
E
I (can be skipped)
O
U (can be skipped)
etc (somewhere between M and E).
This is for my average normal job of mostly talking heads.

If there's need for more exaggerated articulation I can always add more shapes.
