Are sable brushes made by artists? Surely all artists rely on technicians for their tools to a certain degree. On the other hand, haven't artists always needed a certain amount of technical knowledge of their tools? Some artist to this day insist on stretching their own canvas, mixing their own pain...

How to Do A Software Reveal

If you want to see a prime example of a software reveal that got everybody exited and talking, have a look at these guys: Luxology , makers of Modo, a relatively new 3D application. This is how they announced the new features for their upcoming version 4 (or 401, as they choose to call it). Just cli...

Lite versions are generally derived from the full version, not the other way around.

I still wonder if this is just some sort of deal with Wal-Mart which means Wal-Mart had to have it a few weeks before anybody else. Big supermarkets are like that.

Either that, or Smith Micro is actually making a conscience effort to be this incompetent.

Everybody breathe in and breathe out. Relax, stay calm. Calling Mike a rat is about as unfair as it gets. This man single-handedly wrote Moho, ran its website and did the support until he no longer could do so because it wasn't financially viable. Every other person would have stopped developing the...

It's quite amazing how little SmithMicro does to promote their new software. As if they want to make sure as few people as possible will buy the upgrade. It's one thing not being good at marketing, but this is just... I don't know. As far as the upgrade price is concerned. The debut version only cos...

Cool. Although the new features list is for version 5, not 6. I wonder what the sequencer is for.

Is there a "What's new" section in the pdf? If so, could you copy and paste that?

Maybe some special deal with Wal-Mart? Let them have it a few weeks before the rest of the world in order to get it on their shelves? Even the SmithMicro website still mentions AS 5. Weird

I agree with this, but I think it can be done with scripting, no need to add them as feature request. Well, technically speaking, every tool in ASP is a script. Does that mean we shouldn't make any feature requests anymore? I have modified tools myself, no probs. But when a feature request reaches ...

Point Animation Tools

I'm sure some clever clogs will come in saying you could write these yourself given enough knowledge of Lua. But here goes. I was doing quite a bit of point animation lately. The magnet tool is fantastic. But there's more that can be done: - Smooth Tool, for smoothing out bumpy vectors. Like the mag...

I'm typing this as I'm doing some actual work in ASP. Guess what, 3D is the last thing I need. -The timeline could do with a massive boost in readability and navigation (specially the Graph Mode). Setting the render/preview range needs this weird set of ALT/CTRL + Right click/Left Click controls whi...

Well, maybe we're both right. I almost forgot about Retas Stylos HD . Here is a video-tour of the Toei studios where it gets shown. Yes, it is software, but you will still have to draw frame by frame. So it is hand-drawn animation, but with a Wacom tablet. Of course, I can't guarantee that this is h...
