This should work with the bone master script... the one I modified anyway...
You need to duplicate the entire bone hierarchy. The parented bone by itself won't follow the chain unless the chain is there.
You would have a master bone layer that has the same bones as the body switch including the head. The head layer switch would be parented to the head bone in the master bone layer.
The body switch bones would also be slaves of the master bone layer.
You still need to have the chain of connected bones in all layers for it to work.
... assuming that I understand correctly what you are describing.
