The bias stems from the fact that the vast majority of shows like these are animated in Flash. Not a reflection on the quality of the software, I'm just pointing out the reality of the market. I often see people posting questions like these on this forum. They see a show that's clearly animated in a...

When in doubt, always assume it's Flash.

Interestingly enough, Messiah Studio 5.0 now has a special overlay layer that allows you to sketch poses, here's a link (go to New > Sketch).
A piece of 3D software has managed to add this before a dedicated 2D animation app. Come on guys.

Well, I've got it working. Thanks to the wonders of copy and paste, I was able to make the first version in less than half an hour :D All I did was make a replacement version of the lm_scale_points.lua script that scales the line together with the points. Here's the script for those of you who want ...

Scale artwork while retaining line width?
Is it possible to scale some artwork with the scale points tool and scale the line widths up at the same time?
Actually, I have already tried, so I know it's not possible. But is there a script that does this?

Agreed, ASP is brilliant for rigging, 3D, particles, point-level animation, effects animations... But character animation, surprisingly, I consider to be one of its weaker points. Being able to quickly sketch out poses and then capturing their energy and spontaneity in the vectors would be a complet...

A nifty trick used by photographers: when they work with darker skinned models, they often use a light behind the model so the reflection on the skin defines the outlines. You could do the same with adding some light rim on one side of the face - although this also asks for some lightsource in the ...

I always felt that, at the very least, ASP should have something like a sketch layer. A very, very simple bitmap based layer that sits on top of all other layer and that allows you to sketch your animations roughly without too much fuss. Quickly sketching out your animation first gives much better, ...

Unfortunately, AS Batch Renderer is really just an interface for the command-line renderer provided by Mike/Smith Micro. It's not as if I wrote a renderer from scratch. So any bug in the AS renderer might also show in up AS Batch Renderer. The main reason I wrote it is that it would automatically cr...

I put it in my file sharing folder to show what i was talking about. If I have mistaken, I will remove it immediately. No worries, I was just wondering why it showed up there. If it meant there was interest for such a tool, it would be worth picking the development up again. Currently it's pretty m...

New Curves in AS 7
Despite Smith Micro's best efforts, I managed to get hold of the demo of AS7. First thing I discovered is a cute little tickbox under Vector Layer > Layer Settings window > Vectors > Legacy curves. When you create a new vector layer, it should default to unticked. The result is curves that look much...
